ICE: There is a lot of floating mixed ice chucks which make accessing the lake very difficult not to mention dangerous!

Fishing is starting to slow down about 30-40% of what it was, but those that have reported are still catching descent numbers. Jigging over the last couple of days has produced some great numbers, some have reported numbers in the 20's. Colored jigs tipped with cisco or chub is still producing good bites

Trolling has slowed but there are still those that are catching fish. Had a report from one troller that managed to boat the largest non-native cutthroat that's been reported in over a decade. It was a huge brute weighing just under 14 pounds, was 29.5 inches long and had a girth of 18.5 inches.

I also had a direct comment to me that the Bear Lake whitefish were in spawning already.  I thought that to be way early because it usually doesn’t happen until around the 15th to 20th of February but I will not argue with anyone because like I said something was going on that I just can’t describe.

If you got some good pictures please send them to me as well.  If you do not want to put them on the "Submit your Report" link then just send me your remarks and pics to my mobile at 435-757-9430.  If you would just rather email them then you can send them to me at  Darin@fishingbearlake.com.

Thank you Darin! Your comments about the lake and the lures we got from you were exactly what was needed. Not knowing much about the lake, you were a GREAT resource to talk to. We were the only ones out the on the lake today and it was unbelievable fishing using the techniques you suggested and those lures we got from you. What a great day to be out there. Managed to catch a few odds and ends in terms of species, but the overall day was simply unbeatable in terms of numbers and action!.

Thanks again for all the help in learning the lake and your lure recommendations! You and your shop simply rock.

Bear Lake is still has quite a bit of floating ice and it has mainly been concentrated in the area north of Garden City. The fishing is red hot!! There is a lot of ice off the Utah State Park Marina and launching is not recommended there, but boats can be launched at First Point, Rainbow Cove and the private marina as Spinnaker Point. However, depending on which way the wind blows the ice, it could stack up along the boats ramps and make launching difficult or even impossible. Cutthroat trout and lake trout fishing has been phenomenal the past week. This past weekend anglers reported excellent fishing for cutthroat and lakers by either trolling or jigging. If trolling, good depths to target have been about 70-90 feet using large minnow type lure or flatfish. When jigging try castmasters or other vertical jigging spoons or use lead head jigs tipped with cisco. Good spots to try are off Gus Rich Point, the rockpile, and Cisco Beach.

Wow...I didn't know you could catch more than 3-5 fish on a good day up there. Took the kids out late afternoon and only fished for about 3.5 hours but managed enough fish for everyone to limit out very quickly. Even caught one nice 13.5 pound Mackinaw Lake Trout.

Everyone had a great time fishing with the lures we got from the guy at Pugstones. Sadly lost a couple on the bottom but thanks to his input and suggestions, we had the best time we've ever had fishing the lake in many years.

Thank you for a super time!     -A. Charters
