Fishing has started to pick up over the past week. The fishing will continue to do so as we get the full moon out of the sky. Watch for the fishing to pick up even more over the next week.
Fishing from the shore is still an OK choice if you don't have a boat but the chances of catching as many fish is marginal. Work off the south side of the Marina and stay closer to the shoreline. This is the location for the Rainbows that we introduced into the lake. The DWR netted them within 5' from the watermark as well as out into the depths of 15'-20' in the weed beds. Bait fisherman should use worms & powerbait. Flyfisherman should use either wooly buggers or grasshopper with a wet fly as a dropper behind the hopper. Lil Jakes and Panther Martins should also be the lures/spinners of choice.
Trolling on the lake has still be the best as far as numbers of fish caught. All of the tourism has came to a hault and that is what the fish are waiting for so the fishing is getting better everyday. Look for depths of 60' around the Rainbow Cove area. 55'-65' off of the Rock Pile. 90'-96' off of the Marina. 72' off of 2nd Point. 98' off of 1st Point. Get your 2nd Pole Permit and run 2 off of one downrigger. One on the bottom and the other suspended at 55'. This will make a huge difference.
Make sure to use some scent while your trolling. All the trash on your hands makes it so you will not get as many strikes if you don't have them scented so you don't place soap, deodrant, sweat, etc when you are tying everything together. Don't use any line over 10lbs unless you have some floroucarbon line.
